A distorted self-image relates to a perception of yourself that is not grounded in reality.
We all have tiny variances and detachments from reality—for example, we may believe we're a little thinner or heavier than we are—but when your self-image is considerably removed from reality, it can lead to severe emotional and psychological difficulties.
And then begs the question…
How important IS Self-Image?
Well, it mostly depends on whether you are on the positive or negative side.
Self-Image is a definition of “the idea, conception, or mental image of one self”, therefore it is important to know where this stands with you.
What you see when you look in the mirror and how you picture yourself in your head is your self-image.
