Married to Bill Gates, Microsoft founder
Melinda Gates met Bill while working as a General Manager as Microsoft. Now, she consistently ranks as one of the world’s most powerful women. She co-founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000, which is the largest charitable organisation in the world. Melinda works to improve the lives of children all around the world, and has taken on the issue of diversity in the workplace (particularly in technical fields) as her new cause.
We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!
Married to Robert Downey, Jr, actor
Susan Downey was already a successful Hollywood producer when she met her husband, Robert Downey, Jr, on the set of the 2003 thriller Gothika. The two married in 2005, and Robert credits Susan for helping him overcome his drug and alcohol addiction and getting his career back on track.

Michelle Obama was First Lady of the USA from 2009-2017 – the first African American first lady in history! During her time in the White House, Michelle took on public health as a major project, and was outspoken in defense of LGBTQ rights (not to mention a style icon!).
Her best-selling memoir, Becoming, was published in 2018 and has sold over 10 million copies. We’ll have to wait until 2020 to see how Barack’s memoir compares…
Married to Bill Clinton, former US President
Hillary first became widely known as First Lady to Bill Clinton, US President from 1993-2001, but she went on to forge her own illustrious career in politics. She served as a US Senator from 2000-2009, as Secretary of State from 2009-2013, and ran for President in 2016, a race she lost narrowly to Donald Trump. In 2017, Hillary co-founded the political action organisation Onward Together with former Vermont Governor Howard Dean.
Hillary continues to be a symbol of strength and perseverance for women all around the world.
Formerly married to Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder
MacKenzie was married to Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, from 1993 until the two divorced earlier this year. In 2006, MacKenzie won the American Book Award for her novel, The Testing of Luther Albright, and in 2014, she founded the anti-bullying organisation Bystander Revolution.
After becoming the third richest woman thanks to her divorce settlement, MacKenzie signed the Giving Pledge, committing to giving half of her fortune to charity. Worth an estimated $36.6 billion, that’s a lot of money to do a lot of good!
Married to John Oliver, TV host
Kate joined the US Army after the 9/11 terror attacks and worked as a combat medic in Fallujah. Since her return, she has been a passionate advocate for veterans and mental health counselling, and works with the organisation ‘Vets for Freedom’. She met John Oliver at the Republican National Committee, of all places, and the two married in 2011.
