There is no secret formula for success, and we can often find ourselves wondering which way to turn. As time goes on, our dreams can feel like they are drifting further and further into the distance.
Fortunately the ability to create a life you love, a life in which you thrive, is within your control!
Success comes step by step, in a series of breakthroughs. But a breakthrough doesn’t have to be a cinematic, once-in-a-lifetime lightning bolt.
Breakthroughs look different from person to person. They are a sign that you are making progress using what you have learnt. You can encourage them along, like a gentle tap on the shoulder.
Life strategist Tony Robbins states that if you want a breakthrough in any area of your life—whether that’s your well-being or your career, your love life or your health—you need a solid foundation on which to build them.
There is work to be done…
In this instance, the strategy is something that will help you see your life from a new perspective. This might be a bucket list or a notebook crammed with thoughts and insights about your ideas and what success means to you.
Strategies are proven to work time and time again, but only if you work at them. You want a strategy that works for you, one which will drive you to consistently succeed.
Stashing your strategy in your bottom desk drawer will do you no good. If you feel compelled to do so, ask yourself why.
Is it because you are believing a disempowering story?
The little voice in the back of your mind can be friend or fiend. It can conjure a narrative to suit your core belief system. If you believe: “I can’t do this”, “I can’t do that”, of course you will not follow through on your strategy. Most people tell themselves disempowering stories out of a fear of failure.
Your story may be true, you may have experienced trauma, but that is not a reason for not creating success. As Tony says, success and fulfilment are our birthright.
Once you become aware how harmful that little voice can be, you can break through your story, and with a new voice rebuild your narrative from the ground up.
Your body responds to the way you think, feel and act. Our mental and emotional states have a huge impact on whether we succeed in life.
A breakthrough is easily encouraged through changing your mindset. Doing so can be difficult. That little voice has a tendency to undervalue evidence that contradicts our beliefs and overvalue evidence that confirms them, a phenomenon known as confirmation bias.
To counter this, practice positive affirmations and visualise the success you desire.
With your strategy in place you can be clear about your goals and confident that you will achieve them. Not in a day. Not in a week. But given enough time, you will achieve your goals.
It is also important to learn how to…
Studies have shown that starting your day with just five minutes of meditation can improve your well-being. This is key to dealing with the stresses and distractions all around us, and can help in finding fulfilment.
Or, take a couple of deep, relaxing breaths. Hear the sounds of the world float around you. Take a few more deep breaths and in doing so you can release up to 70% of your body’s toxins.
It can be so easy to get distracted with 100,000 flashing lights, people, voices and calls to action all vying for our attention, but just like with muscles, you can train your focus.
One of Tony’s key mantras is: Where focus goes, energy flows. What you spend your time and energy on will affect your mindset, and this in turn affects your narrative—what you believe about yourself.
Just as there is no secret formula for success, there’s no immediate recipe for a breakthrough.
Breakthroughs happen at different stages on the road to success, but always when you are ready for them.
Building a new life, one where you’re consistently proud of the person staring back at you, will take time and dedication to Tony’s encouraging breakthrough fundamentals:
CHANGE YOUR STRATEGY, CHANGE YOUR RESULT.
CHANGE YOUR STORY, CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
CHANGE YOUR STATE—YOU CHANGE IT ALL!
