Limiting Beliefs HealthGo deeper into the four most common limiting beliefs regarding health.

Limiting beliefs are unconscious beliefs we hold about different aspects of our lives.

Personal and performance coach Tony Robbins is an expert at helping people break through these kinds of beliefs. He’s identified the four most common beliefs that affect the four biggest aspects of our lives: health, relationships, career and finances.

We’re going into each of these categories in depth. Today we’re looking at the four most common limiting beliefs about health and how to conquer them.

The only thing that’s keeping you from getting what you want is the story you keep telling yourself. -Tony Robbins

The 4 most common limiting beliefs about HEALTH

1. I don’t have time.

Feeling like you don’t have time to make a lifestyle change is extremely common. The pace of modern life is hectic, and for most of us it doesn’t include a lot of physical activity.

That means that getting the recommended amount of exercise, or switching to a healthier diet, or getting more sleep are all endeavours that can take up a lot of our precious leisure time.

At least, that’s how it feels. But many people all over the world have the time to lead healthy livesand no matter how it may seem, you have exactly the same amount of time as them.

So what are they doing differently? It’s simple: they have made exercise (or healthy eating, or sleeping well, or whatever it is) a MUST rather than a SHOULD.

The key is to turn your shoulds into musts. Begin each day with a plan, and make your health goals a priority every single day.

2. It’s too expensive.

Eating healthy can sometimes seem expensive, but the reality is that it usually costs less in the long runespecially if you switch from high-cost items like meat to more affordable (and healthier!) alternatives like beans, and cook at home rather than ordering in or eating out.

If you’re committed to making a change, don’t let yourself be held back by common misconceptions.

3. I don’t have the willpower.

Willpower is not an inherent trait, it’s a skill. You can train yourself to have stronger willpower just like you’d train a muscle: through repeated use.

Replace this limiting belief with an empowering one: if I can’t, I must; if I must, I can.

You can also reinforce your willpower by turning your health goals into habitsyou can read more about that here

4. I don’t understand.

It’s true that there’s a lot of information out there. Paleo, saturated fats, HIIT, cross fit… It’s a lot to decipher.

It can overwhelm you if you let itbut the reality is that making healthy choices is actually very simple.

As food scientist Michael Pollan says, “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”

Add a mix of aerobic (ie cardio) and anaerobic (weight bearing, resistance training) exercise and you’ve got the recipe for a pretty healthy life.

Nothing hard to understand about that!
